Sunset Strip is a wonderfully decadent Soho striptease theatre, upholding traditional values with a history going back to the 60s when it was founded by Fred Bass and Don Ward. The gregarious Tony Curran took over 12 years ago. The club is smart and glamourous, friendly and entertaining, intimate and comfy, largely unchanged in 50 years, but is currently undergoing some sensitive refurbishment. Tony makes huge love-hearts full of hundreds of photos of the girls, evidence of how he feels about the club and the girls who work there. Drinks are sold at pub prices and served till closing time. There are no hidden costs. Many of the daytime customers are long-term regulars and the club is popular with women, couples and celebrities.
Sunset Strip runs a non-stop show from lunch- time till midnight every day. Tickets are £15 and this is valid as an all-day pass. Tipping is optional. Dancers are paid a wage by the club they love working there, as they can interact with the audience without having to offer a hostess service.
We decided to celebrate the existence of the Sunset Strip, blossoming in a very tradition British style in the face of competition from the big American lapdancing emporia.
