"Why do I crochet vulvas? A lot of times, we as women are taught to hate our bodies, and that our vaginas are weird and gross and smelly. If we ever talk about them, it's in hushed and shamed tones. I believe this negative emotion can be absorbed into society and manifest itself as misogyny, hatred and violence towards women. I figure we have enough self-hate already without having to feel guilty for having our body parts.
"By fighting back with humor, certain topics become accessible to us. It allows us to discuss issues we normally couldn't bring ourselves to talk about, whether they're too taboo, or painful, or otherwise unmentionable. In a world where we're faced with the stark reality of rape, abuse, violence and exploitation, laughter makes it a little easier to bear.
"I want to get people to stop treating the word "vagina" like it's an expletive."
