Candy Bar

The Candy Bar is a prolific lesbian run and owned business with venues situated in the heart of the gay villages of Soho, London and Brighton. This coming October they will not only be celebrating their 10th birthday - an amazing decade of giving girls good times and transforming the face of the lesbian social scene but they will also be unveiling a full refurbishment of the Soho venue. Candy Bar is the first women's venue in the UK to be granted a striptease license - customers enjoy professional shows throughout the week from London's most talented pole-dancers, who are shown appreciation with candy-pink dollars by the audience and a wage from the club, almost unheard-of in the current financially exploitative striptease scene. Candy Bar provides a model of running a striptease venue which most strip clubs in London would be wise to learn from. It has played a crucial role in furthering opportunities for other lesbian ventures to succeed, exposing the lesbian community's market value, increasing lesbian/bisexual visibility in the mainstream and commanding respect for lifestyle choices and rights. Owner Kim Lucas and her dedicated all-women team have propelled dyke nightlife into a new colourful and energetic era.
