The Whoopee Club (London)

Wonderful new club run by striptease artist Lara Clifton and Tamara Tyrer, celebrating pansexual erotic performance, burlesque and striptease. Their imagery is enchanting and their nights experimental, free spirited and sexy.

Notes from the Whoopee Club

The Whoopee! club hosts a burlesque circus cabaret and club night. Every show is elaborate and unique each with it's own theme. The themes are carried through every aspect of the night from the acts and music choice and the decor right down to the specially created cocktails. Whoopee! is the only club offering burlesque in London. At our show night you will find old fashioned striptease, vaudeville, tableaux vivant, circus acts and cabaret backed by a live 8 piece band; The Flash Monkey. This inimitable band play anything from Fifties erotica to gypsy circus riffs. Our nights generate great publicity. Recently we have had interest from Cosmopolitan, Italian Vogue, Marie Claire and The Observer.

This is the kind of place where you can wear a "really fierce" outfit, indeed the audience puts up as much of a show as the performers, losing inhibitions and having fun. Whoopee! clubbers embrace the current vogue for live original entertainment mixed with high glamour. Our burlesque night successfully evokes the feel of old fashioned cabaret but at the same time is utterly modern in it's approach. It is heady combination of high and low art, with as many of the acts coming from a strip pub background as are performance artists.

Whoopee! has felt right at home in the deluxe setting of The Cobden Club in London W10 where it is currently producing a monthly showcase. The grand hall complete with red velvet curtains, a listed Victorian stage, distressed mirrors and golden rococo could not compliment the cabaret more. After the show the party continues into the small hours with rude r'n'b, sleazy rock n roll, jazz and hip hop in the grand hall and a more relaxed ambiance in the cocktail lounge.

Whoopee! is run by "two game gals" (The Face), Lara and Tamara. They met at Lara's annual "Academy of Burlesque" where Tamara came to do lessons in fan dancing. Lara comes from a striptease background and edited the book "Baby Oil and Ice" (winner of the Best Erotic Book award 2002). Tamara is a film maker who has just completed an MA at the Royal College of Art.
