Of Leadbelly.co.uk. Simon was the website designer of www.roobifroot.com, working tirelessly and patiently alongside its two female editors to promote their dream of changing attitudes to female sexuality. Simon died suddenly and unexpectedly aged 34.
The decision to employ a male web-site designer to design a woman's web-site was a difficult one for the founders. Andi Butterworth and Ruth Netherwood wanted a female web designer, but after months of searching the Internet Simon Spencer's brilliant creativity won them over. He complemented the Roobifroot team perfectly.
This unassuming and private man listened patiently to the two impetuous women who arrived at his door. He absorbed the barrage of information and concepts. As a man of vision he knew that Roobifroot was not just a web-site, but a way of life too.
Simon worked tirelessly and with humour to produce work that exceeded the demands of these two women. He responded day and night, constantly offering reassurance, guidance and support. Simon was always the professional: cool, calm and grounding.
Not once did he impose his judgement or personal opinion, but like a true friend he listened and then pushed the limits of Roobifroot to turn their dreams into a reality. Throughout the ups and downs of that year of working together, there were never any doubts that Roobifroot would emerge to change things for women.
Roobifroot is about inspiration and dreams, but more importantly about making things happen. Simon Spencer certainly made things happen for Roobifroot and changed the lives of two ordinary women. Hopefully Simon will continue to inspire many more.
